SinterNews Electronic Newsletter
April 2007 (5th Edition )
A Sinter Magazine
The contents of the latest edition of SinterNews:
  1. EDITORIAL
    • Welcome to this fifth edition of International SinterNews.
  2. PRESSURE-TIGHT. WELDABLE.
    • A special composition of steel and additives makes it possible to manufacture pressure-tight and weldable stainless steel components shaped by means of a traditional sintering process. The stainless material ensures a relatively high density and good mechanical properties, optimally balanced with a good ductility.
  3. WEARDENS® – INTRODUCTION OF A WORLD NOVELTY
    • The WEARDENS® material is a milestone in the development history of sintering technology. Its unique composition of Cr, W, Mo, V carbides and additives makes it possible to manufacture net-shape components with extremely high hardness and high density directly in a conventional sintering process. The material is particularly suitable for cutting tools and wear parts of hydraulic systems, forestry and agriculture.
  4. INNOVATIVE THINKING RESULTED IN UNTRADITIONAL BUT EFFICIENT SOLUTION
    • The cooperation with the office furniture manufacturer Labofa Munch A/S made the FJ Sintermetal’s employees think hard. To find a solution to this project, it was necessary to think creatively and picture a production method that was very different from what we are used to. We succeeded, however, and the production of a complicated claw clutch was halved from 6 to 3 steps.
  5. WEARCOMP® PASSES THE ASTM G 65 TEST
    • Compared to conventional wear materials such as Hardox 600 and AISI D2 , the test results of a “Dry Sand Rubber Wheel” test speak for themselves. MMC WEARCOMP® with its composite particles and additives is an attractive alternative material for wear components in the recycling industry.
  6. INCREASED ABRASIVE EFFECT ACHIEVED BY ADDING IRON OXIDE TO BRAKE/CLUTCH COMPONENT
    • The powder metallurgy industry is constantly trying to improve the production method to achieve the most optimal and cost efficient process. One of the results obtained is an iron/bronze brake/clutch component with good friction properties and high abrasive values.
  7. DID NOT GET WHAT THEY ASKED FOR – FLAME BRAZING MATERIAL SURPRISES
    • It is widely held that the porosity of sintered components disqualify and limit the possible applications of sintered goods when a 100% pressure-tight material is required. Two examples could be water connection systems or hydraulic pumps, because the lubricant would settle into the open pores of the component. But there is a material that becomes both pressuretight and weldable directly in the sintering process.
  8. METAL LAB
    • Most people have a good understanding of how various materials react to various impacts. But you can always learn more.
Editorial
Welcome to this fifth edition of International SinterNews.
Korea hosted the 2006 Powder Metallurgy World Congress, and as always it was inspiring to see what the exhibitors had to present. Powder metallurgy is a narrow and young technology, a niche that only few people decide to explore. We have, however, and over the years we have challenged the technology and frequently produced results that have pushed the limits for the fields of application of powder metallurgy.
One such research result is our new MMC material WEARCOMP®. We presented WEARCOMP® at the World Congress, and in this magazine we will introduce the material to you.
Furthermore, we will introduce another ground-breaking result, WEARDENS®, a world novelty on the market. WEARDENS® consists of a unique composition of additives and carbides, which ensures high density and hardness directly from the sintering process.
In fact, this edition of SinterNews is a special edition dedicated to the materials that we have developed over the years. Materials that have been developed because challenging the technology is essential to our company in order to continue to create new and even greater advantages for our customers.

Enjoy the reading!
