SinterNews Electronic Newsletter
April 1st 2003 (2nd Edition )
A Sinter Magazine
The contents of the latest edition of SinterNews:
  1. EDITORIAL
    • Welcome to the second edition of International Sinternews.
  2. SURFACE STRUCTURE PROLONGS LIFETIME
    • Examinations on the tribological ratios between two surfaces show, that - despite of the same Ra value of a massive and a sintered steel surface - the bearing surface on the sintered component is better than on the massive component. The topography on the sintered component has fewer peaks and more valleys than the massive component, which improves the bearing surface of sintered components.
  3. CO-OPERATION WITH SUPPLIER ENSURES LINAK UNPROBLEMATIC CHANGE OF MATERIAL
    • Strength problems with components of diecast Zn made it necessary for the Danish company Linak to exchange this material with one more suitable for varying loads.
  4. OTHER WAYS TO APPLY SINTER METAL...
    • FJ Sintermetal has received numerous requests on informing more about the fields of application for sinter metal. In this article, we will try comply with these requests by reproducing a number of construction examples on sinter metal.
  5. COMPANY NEEDED COMPLEX COMPONENTS IN SMALL SERIES
    • Originally, Georges Renault got sintered components from Sweden. When the supplier no longer was able to meet the demands of the company, a contact to FJ Sintermetal was established.
  6. SCREW THREADS IN SINTER METAL
    • Studies show, that a female thread in a sinter metal component is considerably stronger than in a massive steel component with the same tensile strength.
  7. SMALL,STAINLESS STEEL COMPONENT WAS THE KEY TO DEMAND OF LOCK MANUFACTURER
    • The powder metallurgy makes it possible to carry out demanding assignments when it comes to complex component geometries with high demands on resistance and corrosion durability.
Editorial
Welcome to the second edition of International Sinternews.
The magazine addresses everyone, who wants to know more about powder metallurgy and sinter metal. In our terminology, sinter metal and powder metal are two designations of the same thing - the components are embossed in powder metal and sintered in a furnace. We have no doubt, that sinter metal has a huge potential, and in International SinterNews we describe - through examples and research results - the advantages associated with the process.
In this edition, we present the work with characterising the surface of sinter metal, which generally gives considerably better properties in terms of abrasion than the equivalent massive material. Apart from that, we bring the interesting result of a strength test of screw threads in sinter metal, which by female threads has turned out to be up to 40 % bigger than the equivalent massive material.
Besides, there is an article on the sintering in stainless steel - one of our specialities. And last but not least, we tell of the possibility to apply sinter metal in small series, by complex geometries and with narrow tolerances. This is illustrated partly through customer examples and partly through an introduction of our example database, which will contain a broad collection of examples on the many fields of application of sinter metal.
Through International SinterNews, we wish to continue the constructive dialogue with the many innovative companies in Europe, who recognize the possibilities of the sintering process. And we continuously invite our readers to contribute to the magazine with good ideas.

I wish everyone a good time with International SinterNews.
